Original designpackage for documentary series "Ungeschminkt" meaning "without make-up" in German. The format started out with Markus Lanz visiting the US right before the 2016 election.
Documenting the state of the United States right before the big election in 2016.
Hosting the successful three-times-a-week talkformat named after himself Markus Lanz is a household name on Germanys most successful TV Station ZDF.
Not widely known, for most of his adult life Markus big passion has been photography. The concept of this unique documentary format changed that. Not only did Makus head out to find an speak to many people – he also took many pictures used throughout the series and used as our basis for producing title and branding tools.
Contrast at a maximum, no beauty editing ever-present in social media: Markus depicts core rather then surface. Uncommon for us and quite the contrary from what one would expect when hearing the series hosting tv journalist would supply some shots he had taken during production.
3D mapping and animation was used to bring the shots to life and form an interesting montage.
Changes were so vast – Director Silke Gondolf and team decided to send Markus again. Exactly one year later he went to find out what had changed.
We decided to go with the general feel of the imagery – complementing it in roughness and leading to untarnished composites.
After the first two episodes aired a year apart the newfound format had worked so well, it was time to come home. But not to concentrate on the studio show and pause "Ungeschminkt" but rather to look in the mirror: "Deutschland – Ungeschminkt".
Markus packed his gear two more times after that. One episode covering England and another one going east to head to Russia.
